Speaker Application [Closed]

Expectations

We are expecting it to be huge and mega fun. We also expect it to be a wonderful platform where you can learn, network and share ideas.

We are organizing a multi-track event so you get the flexibility to submit speaker application that is both fun and interesting to our audience.

WordPress remains an integral part of all the applications which we will go through. But bear in mind generic content that can be ultra helpful to our users can also be considered. As we said, be creative, interesting, engaging and fun.

We would also like to highlight that WordCamps are volunteer-driven and speaking is also considered as volunteering. Therefore, these are not paid gigs or linked with sponsorship. In fact, speakers are expected to pay for their own travel and accommodation.

If you have read so far, and considering applying to speak here, we are delighted. Here are some tips and important pointers you should know while applying.

  • The passion for WordPress.
  • Your desire to give back to the community.
  • Share your expertise live, with a warm and enthusiastic audience.
  • Being a professional speaker is NOT required. HOWEVER, you must know what you are talking about.
  • In your speaker’s submission, let us know how your talk can relate to WordPress’s audience.
  • Your command over the subject matter is more important than your ability to present or your experience speaking at events.
  • We are always on the lookout for new speakers of ALL ages and backgrounds.
  • You have to know how to spell WordPress and Respect the WordPress logo/trademarks.
  • Single speaker sessions aren’t the only thing we are looking for. Feel free to be creative and apply ideas for group discussions, QnA, Demos, Workshops and anything that you could manage in an Auditorium / Classes environment.
  • Speaker sessions need not be in English alone. We would love to host sessions in Hindi and Marathi as well.
  • Adding your story to your talk rather than just giving out instructions will make your session more interesting and even more likely to be picked if others apply for the same topic. For e.g. instead of applying with a topic like “Developing a WordPress Plugin” you could do “Developing my first WordPress Plugin” or “What I learned while publishing over 25 plugins on WordPress.org”
  • Confront your points of view and bring visibility to your use of WordPress.

Guidelines:

  • Speakers are vetted by volunteers, they may not be able to reply to everyone or accommodate everyone, so be thoughtful and nice :).
  • No one is a celebrity at WordCamp Mumbai.
  • Speakers, when they apply, should co-operate with the speaker review team to work on the content of their topics. Just like you, they too have full-time jobs/careers and are volunteering their time to WordCamp Mumbai.
  • If you are distributing any WordPress derivatives which include WordPress Plugins and Themes, they need to be 100% GPL like the core WordPress software.
  • Please be prepared to submit speaker slides OR review your presentation with the WCMumbai speaker team PRIOR to the event.
  • If you are not using slides for your presentation, at least an outline OR points you will be covering needs to submit.
  • As mentioned above these are not paid gigs. Speakers are not paid to speak at WordCamps OR paid by Organisers to travel. They have to either fund themselves OR ask their company to do so.
